The Restaurant

The Gill Box Restaurant

Open daily from 10am until 5:30pm (March – October) Reduced hours between November & February telephone 0800 389 3859.

Situated beside the Mill Stream, the Gill Box Restaurant serves hot food, snacks, drinks and cream teas. Group bookings & evening functions welcome by arrangement.

The Picnic Areas

The museum has a delightful picnic area beside the mill leat and you are welcome to bring your own picnic or take your Restaurant meal outside.

The Shop

Even after 200 years Coldharbour Mill is still a working factory. The wool we produce has been spun on the machines you can see operating during a tour. As such we pride ourselves that not only is our wool of the highest quality but that through our production we are continuing a tradition in practise since 1799.
All proceeds from the sale of our wool, tartan cloths and woven rugs goes towards the restoration and preservation of the factory and mill site.

Coldharbour Mill worsted knitting yarn

The Mill produces knitting yarn in a variety of shades, which is available in ARAN, DOUBLE KNIT and 4-PLY. We process 100% pure new British wool, blending several colours together to obtain our beautiful flecked shades.

Our current yarn shades available are:
CHERRY – BLUEBELL – DEVON GREEN – TARTAN GREEN – HONEY – TEAL – PLUM – PEAT – BRITISH WHITE – MULBERRY – WHEAT

All yarn costs £4.25 per 100 gram hank (plus postage & packaging).

P&P: 75p for 150g, £1.50 for 350g, £2.90 for 750g. For larger quantities please ring the museum for details.

The Devon, Somerset & Blackdown Hills Tartan Collection
These high quality and beautifully designed worsted tartans are woven exclusively at Coldharbour Mill and now soon to be available made under exclusive license by Kilts By Lindsay.

The Devon Tartan:
Designed by Roy Sheard in the early 1980s, the green Tartan reflects the beauty of the glorious Devon countryside, whilst the blue Tartan symbolises the county’s two coastlines celebrating Devon’s long & illustrious connection with the sea.

The Museum Carding Service

Do you have some fleeces that require carding before hand spinning? Then why not send in some of your fleeces to be machine carded here at the mill. We can card your wool quickly and efficiently. Only WASHED fleece is accepted.
Our charge is very modest at £6.60 (plus VAT) per Kilo carded.
