The Friends of Coldharbour Mill Working Wool Museum is a group of like-minded people who have an interest in supporting the Mill and its activities. It is an independent Registered Charity, No. 289991. Our members live in many parts of the British Isles, as well as overseas.

On production of a valid membership card, members are entitled to:
  • free entry to the Mill on subsequent visits, including Steam-Ups
  • 10% discount on Mill products purchased in the Mill Shop (minimum spend £5)
Members receive four newsletters each year to keep abreast of news of the Friends' activities and of developments at the Mill.

The Friends' Committee organises fund-raising events throughout the year, from which several thousand pounds a year are made available to the Mill Trust to assist with the upkeep and restoration of the buildings, the operation of the machinery and the production of Mill goods.

The Annual General Meeting is held every March to hear a report of the previous year and to elect the Committee for the forthcoming year.

VOLUNTARY ASSISTANCE

Many members living within a range of 20 miles or so of the Mill provide voluntary assistance both in Friends’ activities and the running of the Mill.
All such help is greatly appreciated, but, wherever you may live, by joining the Friends you will help to keep this living entity from our industrial past in good order for the sake of those to come.

The Committee of the Friends of Coldharbour Mill organises evening entertainments and other social events throughout the year, and also ensures that the Mill is represented at a range of shows and fairs in the South-West, publicising the Mill & selling Mill products. Whatever assistance members can provide with these events is much appreciated.  If you are able to help, we should be delighted to hear from you. Please phone 01884 840359 in the first instance or email the Mill Office.  (please mark your email: FAO Friends' Committee).

The Mill Office organises the voluntary work connected with the Mill. There is a wide variety of work available - from tour guiding & gardening to operation of the spinning machinery, as well as maintenance of the buildings, the boilers & the steam engines. For further information on these and other possibilities, and to volunteer, please phone 01884 840960 or email the Mill Office.

This will help make your subscription go even further towards helping to keep the Mill alive - see below for information about Gift Aid.

We guarantee to use the information you provide solely for the purposes of The Friends of Coldharbour Mill  Registered Charity No 289991, and will not pass it on to any third party, except Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs in the case of Gift Aid, who will receive only your name and the amount of your subscription/donation.

GIFT AID INFORMATION

As a Registered Charity, the Friends are able to apply for income tax refunds from Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs on subscriptions & donations. This currently provides us with an extra 25 pence for every £1 we receive, provided that the member or donor:
  • is a UK tax payer (only UK tax counts, so if you only pay tax outside the UK you won’t be able to help us with Gift Aid, unfortunately)

    and

  • has returned a completed Gift Aid Declaration Form to the Friends of the Mill
To work out if you’ve paid enough tax to cover your donations, divide the total value of all your charity donations/subscriptions  by four. For example, if you Gift Aid a total of £100 to charities in a particular tax year you will need to have paid at least £20 tax over that period.  So for every £10 you contribute to the Friends, you need to be paying only £2.50 tax per year ! (& most of us actually pay more tax than we think we do!!)

You don’t necessarily have to be working to be paying tax. Apart from tax on income from a job or self-employment, the tax you’ve paid could include:
  • tax deducted at source from savings interest
  • tax on State Pension &/or other pensions
  • tax on investment or rental income
  • Capital Gains Tax
If you are able and willing to help in this way, please complete the Gift Aid Declaration Form supplied with the Membership Application Form  so that we can make a claim for a tax refund on your subscription &/or donation, and return it with the completed Membership Application form and your cheque to the Treasurer at the address given.

If you are already a member of the Friends and now wish to join the the Gift Aid scheme, we will be able to back-date the tax claim on your contributions for up to 4 years.  Please send the completed Gift Aid Declaration Form to the Treasurer at the address given on the Membership Application form. There is no need to complete the Membership form again.

We are, of course, also grateful to receive donations from non-members. If you are not a member and wish to make a donation, please send your cheque to the Treasurer at the address given on the Membership Application form. If you are also willing and able to Gift Aid your donation, please complete & return the Gift Aid form as well.

If you would like more information about Gift Aid, visit the HMRC website: www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/gift-aid.htm or phone the HMRC Charities Helpline on 0845 302 0203 (open 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday). Select option 6 for Gift Aid.

Thank you for your interest.
