Current programme of events
The Events programme is just one of the ways in which the Friends raise funds to support the Mill. Non-members are always very welcome to attend.
PLEASE NOTE:
Parking - for events at the Old Stables at the Mill, parking will normally be in the Mill yard, accessed via the Delivery Gates, unless otherwise stated
- for events at Uffculme Village Hall, as street parking is difficult, it is advisable to park at Magelake, just the other side of the bridge near the Lloyd Maunder factory, & only a few minutes walk to/from the Village Hall.
Uffculme Village Hall events - as we are not permitted to obtain a license to sell drinks there, please bring your own soft &/or alcoholic drinks.
Programme changes - circumstances occasionally dictate that dates, venues or artistes/speakers have to be changed at short notice - please check the information here a few days before an event or phone 01884 840359 or 01884 839782.

About the FRIENDS of COLDHARBOUR MILL
This is a group of like-minded people who have an interest in supporting the Mill and its activities. It is an independent Registered Charity, No.289991. Our members live in many parts of the British Isles as well as overseas.
On production of a valid membership card, members are entitled to:
-
free entry to the Mill on subsequent visits, including Steam-Ups
-
10% discount on Mill products purchased in the Mill Shop or by Mail Order via the 'Restaurant & Shop' page of the website (minimum spend £5)
All members receive 4 newsletters per year, to keep abreast of the Friends' activities and of developments at the Mill.
The Friends' Committee organises fund-raising events throughout the year, from which several thousand pounds a year are made available to the Mill Trust to assist with the upkeep and restoration of the buildings, the operation of the machinery and the production of Mill goods.
The Annual General Meeting is held every March to hear a report of the previous year and to elect the Committee for the forthcoming year.
VOLUNTARY ASSISTANCE
Many members living within a range of 20 miles or so of the Mill provide voluntary assistance both in Friends’ activities and the running of the Mill.
All such help is greatly appreciated, but, wherever you may live, by joining the Friends you will help to keep this living entity from our industrial past in good order for the sake of those to come. Continued support keeps the Mill alive!
The Committee of the Friends of Coldharbour Mill organises social/fund-raising events throughout the year, opens a small 'charity shop' in the Mill yard at Mill events & Steam Ups, and also ensures that the Mill is represented at a range of shows and fairs in the South-West, publicising the Mill & selling Mill products. Whatever assistance members can provide with these events is much appreciated. If you are able to help, we should be delighted to hear from you. Please phone 01884 840359 in the first instance, or email the Mill Office. (please mark your email: FAO Friends' Committee).
The Mill Office organises the voluntary work connected with the Mill. There is a wide variety of work available - from tour guiding, assisting with the Mill's educational programme, & gardening to operation of the spinning machinery, as well as maintenance of the buildings, the boilers & the steam engines. For further information on these and other possibilities, and to volunteer, please phone the Mill office on 01884 840960 (9.30am-1pm Mon-Fri) or email the Mill Office.

If you are not a member and wish to make a donation, please send your cheque to the Treasurer at the address given on the Membership Application form. If you are also willing and able to Gift Aid your donation, please complete & return the Gift Aid form as well. (You can also make donations direct to Coldharbour Mill Trust Ltd via the Donate button on the pages of the Mill website)
We guarantee to use the information you provide solely for the purposes of The Friends of Coldharbour Mill Registered Charity No 289991, and will not pass it on to any third party, except Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs in the case of Gift Aid, who will receive only your name and the amount of your subscription &/or donation.
GIFT AID INFORMATION
As a Registered Charity, the Friends are able to apply for income tax refunds from Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs on subscriptions & donations. This currently provides us with an extra 25 pence for every £1 we receive, provided that the member or donor:
-
is a UK tax payer (only UK tax counts, so if you only pay tax outside the UK you won’t be able to help us with Gift Aid, unfortunately)
and
-
has signed and returned a completed Gift Aid Declaration Form to the Friends of the Mill
To work out if you’ve paid enough tax to cover your donations, divide the total value of all your charity donations/subscriptions per year by four. For example, if you Gift Aid a total of £100 to charities in a particular tax year you will need to have paid at least £25 tax over that period. So for every £10 you contribute to the Friends, you need to be paying only £2.50 tax per year!
You don’t necessarily have to be working to be paying tax. Apart from tax on income from a job or self-employment, the tax you’ve paid could include:
-
tax deducted at source from savings interest
-
tax on State Pension &/or other pensions
-
tax on investment or rental income
-
Capital Gains Tax
If you are able and willing to help in this way, please complete the Gift Aid Declaration Form supplied with the Membership Application Form so that we can make a claim for a tax refund on your subscription &/or donation, and return it with the completed Membership Application form and your cheque to the Treasurer at the address given.
If you are already a member of the Friends and now wish to join the Gift Aid scheme, we will be able to back-date the tax claim on your contributions for up to 4 years. Please send the completed Gift Aid Declaration Form to the Treasurer at the address given on the Membership Application form. (There is no need to complete the Membership form again.)
If you would like more information about Gift Aid, visit the HMRC website: www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/gift-aid.htm or phone the HMRC Charities Helpline on 0845 302 0203 (open 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday). Select option 6 for Gift Aid.
If you have supported us, thank you very much!
If not, please consider it -
your support helps to keep the Mill alive!
