We Are Recruiting for a General Manager

Coldharbour Mill is a late 18th century Grade II* listed building, built as a spinning factory by the Fox Brothers, a very rare surviving example of its kind and unique in the South West.   A Museum since 1982, it retains working examples of textile machinery, water and steam power.  Coldharbour Mill Trust Ltd is a small independent charity working hard to preserve a site of great historic and architectural value, and actively engage the public with the heritage of the woollen industry.

The Museum is open for three days a week from Easter until October (except for pre-booked groups and school visits).  In addition, there are a number Steam Days run throughout the year when the steam engines are fired up by the Lancashire Boiler and other special events days – eg Christmas Fayre, Vintage Vehicles and Craft events.  The Museum is closed from the end of October until Easter.

We are now looking to recruit a General Manager who will shape and lead the operational team, including volunteers, and continue to develop the visitor journey and experience during their time at Coldharbour Mill.  This will be a demanding and exciting role which will be an excellent career opportunity for the right individual.

You will be expected to assist with planning and development of customer services standards with the support of the CEO.  You will lead on the recruitment and training of volunteers.  As a Duty Manager you will hold responsibility for the opening & closing of the museum and the safety of our visitors and the running of the daily operations.

We are looking for someone with proven experience in a customer-facing role at management or supervisory level ideally gained from working in a in a similar/comparable environment, one that delivers a first class visitor experience.  We also need you to have experience of successful income generation through setting/achieving income targets  and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in order to build positive and successful working relationships.
